HISTORY OF CALATA TOWER

Galata Tower, that we used in the AYSAF fair poster is the historical witnesses of İstanbul. Once used for security or observation reasons, it cannot function today. However it is the symbol of İstanbul because of İts historical values.

Galata tower was built by the Cenevizians in 1348 . Af ter the conquest of İstanbul, the tower was renovated with the order of Zaganos Paşa and a dizdar was assigned. Galata Tower which is the head tower of the Galata walls, was damaged after the 1509 earthquake called Smali Doom. Architect Murat bin Hayrettin did the restoration of the tower with the order of Beyazıt the second.

The tower was used as a navy yard storehouse in the 15th century, a dungeon ' in the 16 and a fire watch tovver in the 18the century. Galata Tovver was completely burned in 1794 and 1831, was damaged during the 1875 storm and the 1894 earthquake. İn the 1960's Galata tower was completely renovated. The height of the tower is 61 meters and it has 12 floors.
